Culture War On Facebook Ignited By Burger Patties

By: Andrew Lu

Cracker Barrel, an American breakfast company, thrust the internet into a culture war – actually, they just wanted us to eat their new patties.

The “war” was ignited by Cracker Barrel’s Facebook post last Monday, advertising their new plant-based burger patties. They encourage customers to “discover new meat frontiers.”

“Experience the out-of-this-world flavor of Impossible™ Sausage Made From Plants next time you Build Your Own Breakfast,” Cracker Barrel wrote, which featured an image of eggs, hash browns, and two plant-based patties with a toothpick labeled “Impossible™” planted in one.

The post has been commented on a thousand times already, with a mix of outrage, amusement, and other emotions.

One person wrote, “Oh Noes... the Cracker Barrel has gone WOKE!!!”

“It really is the end times…” “All the more reason to stop eating at Cracker Barrel,” another commenter wrote. “This is not what Cracker Barrel was to be all about.”

It’s really getting heated. Some also blasted Impossible Sausage haters, criticizing them on their political stance.

“Imagine getting upset because a menu option exists at a restaurant. Relax, Trumpers,” one Facebook commenter wrote.

But others weren’t very political, but were listing their food opinions.

“I’m not a rabbit,” one Facebook user wrote. “I love meat!! Lettuce is as far as I’ll go.”

“Plant-based is the future!” wrote another person, adding a green (for eco-friendly) heart emoji. “Everyone stop eating carcasses and eat plants.”

Reporters from NBC asked a spokesman from Cracker Barrel to comment. He said, “We appreciate the love our fans have for our all-day breakfast menu. At Cracker Barrel, we’re always exploring opportunities to expand how our guests experience breakfast and provide choices to satisfy every taste bud — whether people want to stick with traditional favorites like bacon and sausage or are hungry for a new, nutritious plant-based option like Impossible Sausage.”

Then, there are commenters that aren’t so into the menu but laugh while others bicker.

“This comment section is further proof we need to focus more on mental health in this country and get more people into therapy for anger issues,” one Facebook user wrote. (LOL)

“I often wonder if Mark [Zuckerberg] envisioned that his little project to rate girls on the internet would turn into a forum for thousands of old people to yell at Cracker Barrel for adding a menu item they didn’t want,” said another user, referring to Facebook's origins and founder.

As of Thursday (8/4/22), the post had been commented on 5,600 times and gathered 3,400 reactions, including likes, loves, and HAHAs. Do we really need to make such a big deal with plant-based patties?
